Amazon's dramatic plans for Content London
Georgia Brown, Amazon’s director of original television for Europe, will outline her commissioning strategy across Europe at Content London.
Amazon has been ramping up its originals strategy for some time, spending big on Frank Spotnitz drama The Man In The High Castle, which was recently renewed for a third run without Spotnitz on board, and The Collection among with unscripted series including The Grand Tour.
Amazon aims to “do things that really feel like they’re above the bar of what normal television tries to do – characters that you don’t see on TV, relationships that feel fresh and worlds that feel exciting and new,” and Brown’s new mission is likely to support this approach.
Germany offers a case in point, where Amazon tapped Matthias Schweighöfer, one of the country’s biggest film stars, for its inaugural local original. You Are Wanted, from Pantaleon Films and Warner Bros International Television Production, set a new (undisclosed) streaming record for Prime Video in the territory and was one of the five most popular series watched in 70 countries after debuting in March. The show was quickly renewed for a second season.
Brown was previously VP of global scripted and factual content at FremantleMedia.
She will take part in the One-on-One interview series during The International Drama Summit.
We will be announcing new speakers each week, so check back regularly for further information.
