About the initiative

The winner of the C21 UK Animation Digital Pitch 2022 in association with UK Global Screen Fund and Animation UK has been announced in The Digital Pitch Results Show, where a panel of industry judges discuss the shortlisted ten projects and share their thoughts on what makes a good pitch.

The winner of the C21 UK Animation Digital Pitch 2022 is Toddler Time from Hoho Entertainment.

The judges felt the pitch was elegant, well thought through and clearly defined, with the Hoho Entertainment team demonstrating they knew the two-to-four aged target audience and offering a really clear vision for the series. The judges believed the foundations were already in place for an impressive, charming show, which has a strong design.

Toddler Time will now receive a marketing package through C21Media worth £30,000 to support development and pre-sales of the show. When released, the series will also feature as a hero title within the ScreenUK promotional campaign.

The partnership with UK Global Screen Fund and Animation UK came together to allow kids animation creators to connect the best new ideas with the international content community. The finalists, from UK animation producers, were all looking to attract additional finance and coproduction partners to take them to the next level.

"It has been wonderful to see such a range of animation companies pitching quality projects with such international appeal. As the UK screen sector adapts to the collective challenges of recent years, it is vital to support independent screen businesses in reaching their potential in the global marketplace. On behalf of the UK Global Screen Fund I would like to congratulate all of the shortlisted projects, with a special mention to Hoho Entertainment for delivering the winning pitch. We have been proud to partner with C21 and Animation UK on this important initiative and hope that each of the participating companies continues to benefit from the opportunity and exposure as they take their projects forward," said Denitsa Yordanova, head of UK Global Screen Fund, BFI.

"We knew we had to facilitate kids’ animation creators to connect with the international content community when there were fewer opportunities to pitch to internal buyers. As the voice of the UK animation sector, we also knew that the creative ideas were there and ready to showcase, and we have not been disappointed with the range and quality of the pitches. Our congratulations, Hoho and to all the shortlisted projects. Many thanks to our partners, commissioners, and buyers who have participated so generously," said Kate O’Connor, executive chair, Animation UK.

"This pitch competition has allowed us to showcase some of the best new shows to the kids animation buyers worldwide. We were really impressed with the quality of entries and engagement from the judges and wish all the projects success. Congratulations to Hoho Entertainment, who win a £30K C21 marketing package prize, to promote the show to the global business," said Ruth Palmer, C21’s event programming director.

The judges looked for a project which was the most commercially viable and able to demonstrate audience appeal through log line and premise, age group target and character development. They also considered how well the project was developed and planned and that it had potential for international success.

The C21 International Drama Series Pitch is currently open for entries. See here for more info or email [email protected] with any queries.
