US Series Copro Pitch

The winner of the C21 US Copro Digital Pitch is Shades from Libby Dougherty and The Bomb Shelter. This was announced in The Digital Pitch Results Show, in which the four judges discuss the 12 finalists and share their thoughts on what makes a good pitch.

The judges felt that Shades was fresh, compelling, modern and delivered a provocative approach to a period piece, featuring flawed, fascinating and deeply human characters with whom the audience will empathise. They were also very impressed with the highly experienced team behind the project who provide an organic diversity of perspectives.

Shades will now receive a marketing package through C21Media worth £10,000 to support development and pre-sales of the show.

In addition the judges identified 2 other pitches that deserve a special mention. The first is The Book of Micah, from Thiago Aiache and Conspiração Filmes. View the pitch here.

The judges felt The Book of Micah was original, emotionally engaging and unique, offering a twist on stories surrounding faith and mythology, and that the pitch was delivered with passion.

The second is Dead Man Talking, from Jivi Singh and iFFContent. View the pitch here. The judges felt this was a high-concept idea with originality and engaging subject matter, with a very highly experienced team behind it.

The C21 Summer 2020 Digital Pitch’ focus was US Series Copro and was designed to uncover the best new scripted series from the US looking for international finance and partners, and the cream of fresh international projects looking to attach US partners and backing.

The 12 final shows in the final featured early-stage drama and comedy projects from established and next-generation producers and showrunners from the US and international business.

The projects were selected from over 50 submissions from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, New Zealand, South Africa, UK and US.

The 12 successful pitches were reviewed by a panel of industry judges, who looked for audience appeal, how well the projects had been developed and planned and the strength of the team behind it.

The judges for this pitch were Anna Croneman, head of drama at SVT; Alec Strum, VP of original programming at Epix; Meghan Lyvers, SVP of coproduction and development at CBS Studios International; and Ben Irving, drama commissioning editor at the BBC.

The C21 Digital Pitch is a quarterly pitch initiative that allows creators to connect the best new ideas with the global content community.

Creators present their projects through C21’s Digital Pitch Platform, and the world’s leading buyers and commissioners choose their favourites. These pitches are exposed to C21’s community of more than 200,000 international entertainment executives around the world, to amplify exposure to the biggest community in television.

The next C21 Digital Pitch will open for entries on August 3 and will take place during November 2020.
