Next year’s edition of Natpe Budapest cancelled by organiser Brunico

Natpe Budapest in 2022

Natpe Budapest will not take place in 2026 after event organiser Brunico decided to focus its efforts elsewhere.

Brunico said it had made the decision not to proceed with the content market, which had been due to take place in the Hungarian capital between April 27 and 29, to focus on the development of its North American market.

The cancellation came after the Canadian company had already moved the event from its traditional June slot earlier this year.

Natpe Budapest was first held in 1993. The event briefly moved to Prague for two years in 2014 and 2015, under the name Natpe Europe, before returning to Hungary in 2016, while its 2020 and 2021 editions were disrupted due to the pandemic.

It is the latest industry event to rethink its future, after the team behind international factual event Sunny Side of the Doc decided it will not be held in 2026 due to a lack of funding.

Natural history conference Wildscreen Festival this week confirmed it would be swapping the UK city of Bristol, its base for the last 40 years, for nearby Bath in 2026 to ensure the festival remains affordable for both the charity that runs it and its attendees.

However, the industry calendar remains busy, with events such as C21’s inaugural Content Europe taking place in Lisbon from April 21-23 next year, followed by C21’s CEE-focused Content Warsaw in Poland from June 1-3.
