Channel 4 appoints Alisa Pomeroy as head of unscripted

Channel 4 has named Alisa Pomeroy as its new head of unscripted, reporting to recently appointed director of programmes David Brindley.

Pomeroy will take up her new position in January as part of C4’s restructured commissioning team. The role brings together the Documentary & Factual Entertainment, Reality & Entertainment and Specialist Factual slates.

Formerly the channel’s head of documentaries and factual entertainment, Pomeroy’s credits include To Catch a Copper, The Push: Murder on the Cliff and Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain. She also has credits on factual dramas Partygate and Dirty Business, plus factual entertainment titles Handcuffed, Secret Genius and Snackmasters.

Her new remit spans factual titles 24 Hours in Police Custody and Educating Yorkshire; factual entertainment including Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing; comedy series Taskmaster and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown; and family shows Gogglebox and The Great British Bake Off.

Emma Hardy, C4 head of commissioning operations, said: “Alisa has been a fantastic colleague, creative and leader at Channel 4 for the past 11 years. We’re so looking forward to the next chapter in her expanded new role.”

Pomeroy added: “Over the past 11 years, I’ve had the privilege of working on some of the channel’s biggest shows alongside outstanding creatives. This expanded unscripted remit is an exciting opportunity to build on that experience, bring fresh ambition to our programming and champion bold, original ideas. I’m looking forward to working with our teams and creative partners to shape what comes next.”

The appointment continues a run of exec changes at Channel 4, which earlier this week confirmed the departures of comedy chief Charlie Perkins and entertainment head Steve Handley.

Brindley, currently CEO of Twofour, was named the broadcaster’s director of programmes earlier this month, replacing the outgoing Ian Katz.

New C4 CEO Priya Dogra, who only succeeded Alex Mahon this year, used Katz’s departure to restructure the channel’s management, giving Louisa Compton and Kiran Nataraja director positions alongside the creation of a third, now filled by Brindley.
