Netflix expects Something Very Bad from Duffer brothers, strikes AMC pact

Netflix has ordered a psychological horror series produced by Matt and Ross Duffer (aka the Duffer brothers), creators of sci-fi juggernaut Stranger Things.

Haley Z Boston

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is written and created by Haley Z Boston and follows a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated wedding day.

The limited series is produced by the Duffer Brothers’ production banner Upside Down Pictures, which has an overall deal with Netflix.

Andrea Sperling (Transparent, Murder at the End of the World), who has her own overall deal with Netflix, will also executive produce.

Boston’s previous writing credits include Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Brand New Cherry Flavor, both of which debuted on Netflix, while her directorial debut, a short film called Beach Logs Kill, premiered this year at SXSW.

The Duffer brothers are currently in production on the fifth season of Stranger Things and will go into production on the Netflix original drama The Boroughs in the fall.

Elsewhere, Netflix inked a deal to license 13 AMC Networks series for one year, starting on August 19 in the US.

The titles include The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, Dark Winds, A Discovery of Witches and Monsieur Spade.

The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will also join Netflix in January.

AMC Networks previously agreed a similar deal with Warner Bros Discovery, whereby it licensed several of its titles to the latter’s streamer Max for two months.
