Queensland, Australia is home to two world-class studio complexes -- Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast and Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane -- with planning underway for a further two studio facilities: one in Cairns, and one on the Gold Coast.


Village Roadshow Studios is situated on the aptly named Entertainment Rd, Oxenford on the Gold Coast, close to diverse locations as well as two international airports and a range of facilities. The Studios are a 45-minute drive south of the Brisbane International Airport and a 30-minute drive from the Gold Coast’s international airport.
For 30 years, Village Roadshow Studios has offered world-class film production facilities, nine sound stages and three water tanks, ten production offices, editing suites, wardrobe, makeup, construction workshops, paint and carpentry shops.

All sound stages are equipped with current industry standard facilities including air conditioning, extraction fans, steel grids and catwalks. The stages vary in size in an overall floor area of 10,844 M2 (116, 727 sq ft). Stage 9 is the largest sound stage in Australia, measuring 80m (262 feet) in length, 47m (154 feet) in width and 18m (59 feet) in height. Village Roadshow Studios’ Main Tank is the largest purpose-built water tank in Australia, with a surface area of 1,200m2 (12,915sq ft).

Village Roadshow Studios provides a comprehensive support network of experienced film service companies conveniently located on the lot. These companies can provide production services, casting, camera, lighting, rigging, travel/freight, post-production facilities, Drone Cameras, Lidar Scanning, EWP Equipment, Film facility vehicles, I.T. Support and a Student training facility. Village Roadshow Studios is truly a one stop shop for all your filming needs.

Recent productions filmed at the studios include The Wilds season 2, Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis biopic, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Godzilla vs. Kong, Aquaman and Thor: Ragnarok.

Opened in January 2019 and operated by Screen Queensland, Screen Queensland Studios is Australia’s newest and third largest studio complex. The lot is located at 45 Gosport Street Hemmant, just 15 minutes from downtown Brisbane and 12 minutes from Brisbane International Airport (BNE). The complex is 30 minutes’ drive from diverse locations and landscapes including beaches, bays, rivers, mountains, rainforest and urban city settings.

Screen Queensland Studios are a dry-hire facility well suited to low to mid-range budget feature films, television and subscription video-on-demand drama series and offers:

• a total lettable area of 16,000sqm total | 173,000sqft
• two sound stages
• two warehouses
• one mixed used building
• production office
• eight green rooms
• 200 parking spaces.

Productions filmed at Screen Queensland Studios include Paramount Pictures’ Love and Monsters and Universal Studios Group’s Young Rock. Production will commence soon on Universal’s highly anticipated series Joe Exotic.


The Queensland Government will construct two new studios, to provide further production facilities to service the popular film hubs of the Gold Coast and Cairns.

The Gold Coast has a decades-long reputation as a film-friendly paradise, and is home to a large number of Australia’s most experienced crew and screen professionals. The city’s warm climate and clear skies, together with a vast array of nearby locations, is reminiscent of California.

Cairns, the major city of Queensland’s tropical Far North, is the urban gateway to The Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Productions that have filmed in Far North Queensland include: This Little Love of Mine, Dive Club, Microworlds: Reef, Blue Water Empire, Strait to the Plate, Fool’s Gold, Paradise Road and The Thin Red Line.

Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy offers a selection of incentives and grants for national and international producers, for projects with a minimum A$3.5 million Queensland Production Expenditure (QPE). The City of Gold Coast offers an an additional incentive for productions with a committed spend of $1.5 million in the region.
