Rai board shakes up leadership of genre programming departments, names new directors

Italian national public broadcaster Rai has shaken up the leadership roles within its programming department, with new directors of primetime, documentaries, digital and kids.

Stefano Coletta

Stefano Coletta, who was previously distribution director at Rai, will oversee the various genre departments, which Rai introduced in 2022 after removing TV channel director roles and replacing them with directors of genres.

Coletta will be replaced at the distribution department by Maurizio Imbriale, who previously served as director of digital and transmedia content.

Marcello Ciannamea will leave his role as director of primetime entertainment, which will be taken over by Williams Di Liberatore, who previously worked in branded entertainment at Rai, while Ciannamea will become the new director of digital and transmedia content.

Maria Rita Grieco, who is leaving her position as deputy director of flagship news programme TG1, has been appointed director of Rai’s international offering, replacing Fabrizio Ferragni, who has retired.

Fabrizio Zappi is leaving his position as head of Rai Documentaries to take on the role of director of culture and educational programming.

Luigi Del Plavignano, formerly deputy director at Rai Documentaries, has been appointed as the new head of the department, while Roberto Genovesi, previously director of publishing arm Rai Libri, will takeover leadership of Rai Kids, replacing Luca Milano, who is set to retire, as previously reported by C21.
