ORF-Enterprise takes distribution rights to Whatever Pictures’ Crème de la Crème

Production on Crème de la Crème has now finished

MIPCOM: ORF-Enterprise, the commercial arm of Austrian pubcaster ORF, has acquired the international distribution rights to Finnish prodco Whatever Pictures’ comedy drama Crème de la Crème.

The 8×30’ show was commissioned by Finnish pubcaster YLE, where it is scheduled to premiere next year, with production now complete. It is written and directed by Jukka Vidgrén, Topi Koljonen, Henna Rinnekangas, Juuso Laatio and Anna Heinämaa.

The plot centres on a young farmer whose childhood dairy farm is on the brink of collapse. To save the farm, he and his friends start a sperm bank business. As the money rolls in, what began as a bizarre side hustle soon spirals into something much bigger – and riskier – than they ever imagined.

In other Whatever Pictures news, the prodco has signed a coproduction partnership with Norway’s Rein Film on crime drama Silent Herd. Currently in development, the 6×50’ series is a murder mystery set among the indigenous Sami people in the northernmost parts of Norway and Finland.

The show follows an investigator who is forced to return to the village they fled in their youth. When suspicious deaths begin to expose old wounds inside a powerful reindeer-herding family, the investigation becomes both a murder mystery and a personal reckoning. Jens Martin Mienna, Jörgen Hjerdt and Aleksi Puranen are the writers.

The deals were concluded at Mipcom in Cannes this week.
