NEWS BRIEF: Filmmaker Victoria Mapplebeck and former Channel 4 commissioner Adam Gee have teamed up to run a one-day event in London on July 11 that will explore the creative impact of shooting films on a smartphone.

Held at Finsbury Park Picturehouse, SMart will feature screenings, filmmaker conversations and industry panels about how creatives can use their smartphones to make films. Among the films being screened will be Motherboard, Left-Handed Girl and More Life. Mapplebeck said smartphone filmmaking “lowers barriers, opens up cinema to new voices, and allows filmmakers to work with an intimacy and immediacy that traditional production often can’t match.”
