Cameras roll on Spanish drama Boga from suspense novel author Mikel Santiago

Boga follows a team of rowers who try to cover up a fatal accident

Plano a Plano Bilbao, Euskadi Movie and Producciones Innatas AIE are in production on a drama to be made available on Basque streaming platform Primeran and distributed internationally by ITV Studios.

Created by Mikel Santiago and Txemi Parra, Boga follows five young rowers who, after qualifying for the final of the most important championship of their lives, accidentally run over a young woman.

After they decide to hide the crime and make a pact of silence to protect their sporting future, the police investigation and the weight of guilt test the loyalty of the group.

The cast is headed by Iraia Elias and Mikel Losada, accompanied by Mikel Niso, Mikel Kaye, Iker Roca, Markel Sainz and Ander Martínez.

It marks the first TV series from Santiago, who is one of Spain’s most popular authors of suspense novels, such as El hijo olvidado and La última noche en Tremore Beach.

The six-part project is directed by Mikel Rueda, who is also part of the screenwriting team, along with Santiago and Parra.

Filming began on June 15 and will take place over the next few weeks in Bizkaia and Álava in Spain. Emilio Amaré and Álvaro Benítez are the producers. Benítez is also an executive producer, while Eduardo Carneros is the coproducer.

The show’s distributor, ITV Studios, acquired a majority stake in Plano a Plano last year. Primeran is part of EITB, the publicly owned audiovisual group that operates broadcast media in the Basque region.
