Polish prodco ATM Group has acquired the rights to adapt Remigiusz Mróz’s bestselling novel Hell is Empty into a TV series.

Hell is Empty opens the Raport series of thriller books set in the world of investigative journalism. The adaptation is currently in development as a six-episode series with Anna Nagler (The Woods) on board as creative producer.

The plot follows a journalistic investigation into the high-profile disappearance of a young woman. As the narrative unfolds in the present day, it gradually uncovers unresolved events from 2015. As new facts emerge, dark connections, power structures and long-buried secrets come to light, turning the pursuit of truth into a deadly game.

Mróz has ranked as Poland’s most widely read author for six consecutive years, according to the National Library. His novels have sold more than 11 million copies, several of which, such as Chyłka, The Behaviourist and Forst, have already been adapted for screen.

“Remigiusz Mróz is unquestionably one of the strongest author brands on the Polish market today,” said Urszula Piasecka, VP of ATM.

“We chose Hell Is Empty because it is an exceptional piece of material with strong screen potential – emotionally intense and highly relevant, raising urgent questions about the limits of media responsibility and whether truth still holds real value in an era of disinformation.”
