This year’s C21 Drama Pitch winner was Song of the Sun God, with honourable mentions given to Gnomes and Rivals.
Song of a Sun God by Photoplay Films, Australia features Bridgerton star Charithra Chandran as a Londoner who investigates the mysterious disappearance of her aunt, visiting from war-torn Sri Lanka. A deficit of around £7.5m needs to be raised of the £17-18m budget. A coproduction between Australia’s Photoplay Films and Synchronicity Films in the UK, the 6×60’ family saga/thriller has been commissioned by Australia’s SBS.
Cineflix Rights is a creative and finance partner, with the first option on exclusive worldwide distribution. “Song of the Sun God goes behind the headlines about the Tamil Tigers and unearths that little-known story about a 21st Century civil war,” says Karen Radzyner, executive producer at Photoplay Films. Olivia Hetreed has written a pilot script, with episodes to be filmed in the UK, Australia and India.
