TVNZ unveils 2014 line-up

US series including Resurrection, Super Fun Night, Mom and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will sit alongside US$82m (NZ$100m) worth of local programming in TVNZ’s upcoming 2014 season, the pubcaster has said.

TVNZ today unveiled its line-up for next year, with its head of television, Jeff Latch, saying its relationship with “Hollywood heavyweights” Disney and Warner Bros provide TVNZ with “critical depth of international content across its schedules.”

ABC’s supernatural thriller Resurrected, which sees the people of a town in Missouri changed forever when their deceased loved ones suddenly start to return, will air on TV2 next year.

TV2 will also air US imports including ABC comedy Super Fun Night, which was recently extended for a further four episodes in US, Marvel’s Agents of Shield and Mom, which airs on CBS.

Returning series to the TVNZ schedules include Arrow, Revenge, The Big Bang Theory and Once Upon A Time.

TVNZ, which also has output deals with Sony Pictures and ITV Studios, renewed its pact with the latter last week, giving it rights to UK series including Breathless and Downton Abbey.

Meanwhile, imports from Australia include courtroom drama Rake, social comedy Upper Middle Bogan and six-part thriller Secrets and Lies, all of which will air on TV1.

“Mark my words: 2014 is going to be a standout year for local content. TVNZ will put to air more than NZ$100m of local programming,” Latch added.

Local series set to air next year include Field Punishment No.1, which explores the experiences of Kiwi conscientious objectors who were sent off to France during WWI; comedy Cover Band, which follows the trials and tribulations of aspiring musicians; and the previously announced family comedy Step Dave.

Fellow Kiwi broadcaster MediaWorks ended an output deal with Fox last week.
