Sky NZ promotes Tina McLaren to group commissioning editor in restructure

Sky New Zealand has elevated senior commissioner for scripted Tina McLaren to commissioning editor for free Sky TV streaming platform Neon and recently acquired Three and ThreeNow.

The integrated role streamlines the Sky Originals and Sky Free commissioning teams into one unified content commissioning team for Sky.

In her new overarching role, McLaren leads a team comprising commissioners Shelley Quinn, Nick Ward and Rob Brown.

A Sky spokesperson said: “Bringing the commissioning functions together will streamline collaboration with production and funding partners and support a consistent approach to commissioning content across the Sky portfolio, following its acquisition of Three and ThreeNow in 2025.”

McLaren has more than 25 years of industry experience across drama, documentary and reality programming and has held roles in broadcasting and production.

After serving as TVNZ’s drama commissioner from 2009 to 2017, McLaren then moved to head of production at Screentime NZ from 2017 for five years before joining Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) ANZ, where she was commissioner for Three and ThreeNow. During her time there she commissioned drama series Madam, comedy Happiness and reality series The Traitors New Zealand.

The commissioning restructure follows the exit in January of head of Sky Originals Thomas Robins, who stepped down after nearly five years in key commissioning positions.

His exit punctuated a tumultuous year for the broadcaster during which it integrated the free-to-air assets and resources of WBD ANZ, now branded Sky Free, which it acquired last August.
