Fremantle tees off production, distribution deal for crazy golf format Holey Moley

Holey Moley sees mini-golf played on an outsized course

European production group Fremantle has secured the global production and distribution rights to ABC’s extreme crazy golf competition format Holey Moley.

The company is completing a production hub in Portugal, where it hopes multiple local versions of the show will be filmed as the format finds new buyers around the world.

Holey Moley, also known as Hole in One, is made by LA- and Sydney-based Fremantle label Eureka Productions (The Floor) for US network ABC and Australia’s Seven. It sees contestants face off on mini-golf courses featuring obstacles such as erupting volcanos, planetary rings and slippery slopes.

The show’s production hub is being built in Portimão, Portugal, and is designed to both enhance production values and deliver partner efficiencies. Fremantle said that filming will begin there in May with new commissioners to be announced soon.

Jennifer Mullin, group CEO at Fremantle, said: “Holey Moley has proven its success in the United States, with its unique blend of comedy, competition, and large scale spectacle, attracting a significant broad audience.

“We are excited to drive the format’s international expansion through our new global production hub in Portugal. Led by Fremantle Global Entertainment in close collaboration with the Fremantle Portugal team, this theme-park-scale set and world-class production infrastructure enable us to deliver premium, high-impact entertainment while achieving the production efficiencies essential in today’s global market.

“This hub underlines our ambition and further strengthens our growing Fremantle entertainment portfolio.”
