Netflix remakes BBC3 improvisational comedy Murder in Successville for US

Will Arnett and Kumail Nanjiani in Murderville

Netflix has made a US version of BBC3 improvisational comedy show Murder in Successville starring Will Arnett and a host of celebrity guests.

Murderville sees senior detective Terry Seattle (Arnett) attempt to solve murder cases with a new celebrity guest as his partner in each episode.

The guest stars aren’t given a script and as they assist Seattle clue by clue, they must improvise their way through the case. In the end, it’s up to the celebrities alone to name the killer.

Annie Murphy, Conan O’Brien, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, Marshawn Lynch and Sharon Stone are confirmed to appear in the show’s first season.

Described as Law & Order meets Whose Line Is It Anyway?, the procedural crime comedy will debut on February 3 and marks the first international version of BAFTA award-winning Murder in Successville.

The original ran for three seasons on BBC3 in the UK between 2015 and 2017 and starred Tom Davis as DI Desmond Sleet, who investigates various killings with an array of celebrity sidekicks.

Produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, the show was created by Andy Brereton and Avril Spary.

It marks the latest Netflix remake of a BBC3 show after the global streamer recently rebooted dating show Sexy Beasts.
