MultiChoice, SuperSport alum Nomsa Chabeli named as group CEO of SABC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has appointed former MultiChoice exec Nomsa Chabeli as group CEO.

Nomsa Chabeli

Chabeli’s career includes a stint as general manager of marketing at mobile operator MTN, head of marketing at MultiChoice and marketing director at the SuperSport channel and the DStv platform.

According to SABC, she will now spearhead the strategic vision and operations across the entire group – comprising eight TV channels and 19 radio stations – and will take up the position from March 1 next year.

Her appointment comes after former group CEO Madoda Mxakwe left amid the loss-making public broadcaster’s turnaround plan in June, as it struggled with declining audiences due to digitisation. Nada Wotshela was appointed as his replacement on an interim basis.

“This organisation holds a rich legacy of public service through broadcasting, and I am committed to advancing its mission and intensifying efforts to significantly improve revenue generation and lay the foundation for enduring success,” said Chabeli.

“Faced with the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital landscape, together we will embrace innovation, foster meaningful connections and ensure that our content continues to inspire, inform and resonate with diverse audiences in this dynamic landscape.”
