Hulu, Disney+ docuseries to explore male influencer ‘looksmaxxing’ culture

Get Huge: Looksmaxxing to Death drops next month

US streamer Hulu is launching a “provocative” true-crime documentary series exploring masculinity in the influencer age set against the backdrop of the ‘looksmaxxing’ trend.

Get Huge: Looksmaxxing to Death will debut on November 10 on Hulu and Disney+ in the US and on the latter internationally.

The three-part series is described as a “provocative and intimate psychological autopsy of male influencer culture.”

Looksmaxxing refers to the online subculture and self-improvement trend, primarily focused on young men, that ranges from everyday grooming to more high-risk, invasive measures, from orthodontic changes to dangerous DIY practices like ‘bone-smashing.’

The docuseries explores the more extreme side of the movement, which promises to unlock human potential, from bulging muscles and bigger penises to eternal youth.

It focuses on Dr Tony Huge, a guru pushing homemade biohacks on a devoted following willing to risk everything for the cause. However, when a penis-enlargement expert and one of Huge’s closest allies is found dead in Thailand, alpha-male influencers become online sleuths.

It is directed by Stacey Lee and produced by Boardwalk Pictures (Welcome to Wrexham) and Hyperobject Industries (Don’t Look Up).

The executive producers include Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for Hyperobject Industries, Andrew Fried, Lana Barkin, Jordan Wynn and Dane Lillegard for Boardwalk Pictures, William Crouse and Stacey Lee for Lovely Days, Jennings Brown for Nocturne and Brett Neichin.

This project joins Hulu’s offering of documentary programming, including Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, Betrayal: Dirty Secrets, The Swan: Behind the Mirror and Swipe Right on the Devil.
