Nomsa Philiso, CEO of general entertainment at MultiChoice Group, opened the Mip Africa convention this week, emphasising the growing significance of African content on the global entertainment industry.

The exec highlighted Africa’s unique potential and the strategic opportunities it presents for content creators and distributors worldwide.

South Africa-based MultiChoice has previously collaborated with the likes of Fremantle, Night Train Media and BBC Studios on crime dramas such as Reyka, Catch Me a Killer and Devil’s Peak.

Ahead of the event, Philiso spoke with Nico Franks about her desire to work with more international partners for a growing slate of dramas set in pre-colonial Africa.

She also discussed how the broadcaster, which co-owns streamer Showmax together with Comcast’s NBCUniversal, is working to ensure African audiences are first to see African stories, and why competition from the likes of Netflix isn’t as strong as it once was.

C21FM is live 24/7, with a block of interviews starting at 10am BST every day HERE.
