Mediacorp acquires 600 hours of Thai drama after BEC World package deal

Nakee will be available on-demand for free on MeWatch from October 6
Singapore’s national broadcaster Mediacorp has bagged more than 600 hours of Thai dramas, after a licence deal with Bangkok-based digital entertainment platform BEC World Public Company.
Under the deal, Mediacorp will air the dramas on its streaming platform MeWatch (formerly known as Toggle) and selected shows will also air on the company’s Mandarin-language free-to-air terrestrial TV network Channel U, aimed at the youth segment.
Shows in the package include period series Love Destiny 2, the sequel to the 2018 megahit Love Destiny; romantic legal drama Dare to Love; To Me, It’s Simply You, Thailand’s top-rated primetime series of 2021; and supernatural adventure series Nakee, which was Thailand’s top-rated drama in 2016.
New episodes of Love Destiny 2 will be released weekly on MeWatch and Channel U in both Chinese and Thai and in the same week of its original premiere in Thailand, while Love Destiny is also available on both platforms. Dare to Love, To Me, It’s Simply You and Nakee will be available on-demand for free on MeWatch from October 6.
“This collaboration not only showcases our commitment towards delivering high-quality content but also signifies our dedication to furthering strong ties between Singapore and Thailand through shared cultural experiences,” said Surin Krittayaphongphun, president of TV business and executive director at BEC World.
Lee Hung Sheng, head of audience and partnerships at Mediacorp, said Thai dramas are “renowned for their inventive storytelling and cultural richness,” adding: “This collaboration underscores our commitment to cater to the diverse, dynamic tastes of local audiences with an ever-expanding slate of content offerings across our media network.”
