Lil Critter Workshop sets up digital studio, launches animated series on TikTok

Lawak Campus: School Daze

Kuala Lumpur- and Bristol-based animation house Lil Critter Workshop (LCW) has set up a digital-first animation production studio in Malaysia and appointed Jan Stradling as consultant development executive in the UK.

Lil Critter Digital’s first project is Lawak Campus: School Daze (104×15″), a comedy series for tweens that has launched on TikTok. Later this year, the show will also debut as a 52×2′ web series in English on YouTube and in Malay on Astro.

Meanwhile, Stradling joins LCW having held senior positions including commissioning editor/executive producer at Australian pubcaster the ABC and senior network producer at Walt Disney Television in Oz and New Zealand.

She will oversee the company’s development slate from LCW’s UK base following the studio’s launch in Bristol last year, where it is focusing on developing the company’s own IP.

LCW co-founder and executive producer Walid Omar said: “Developing a digital-first strategy will enable us to create fast-turnaround properties at the same time as building our portfolio of animated series for more traditional broadcast outlets and platforms.

“In tandem, we are committed to growing our UK presence and we are thrilled that a senior broadcasting executive with Jan’s experience will be working with us on our slate of development projects that are being spearheaded from our Bristol base.”
