A children’s channel in South Korea has acquired a French cartoon about a boy who is half oyster and half human, marking its first series from Europe.

Animax Korea will air Boyster (52×13′), which is produced by French studio Je Suis Bien Content in association with The Walt Disney Company EMEA and pubcaster France Télévisions.

It follows an 11-year-old who has the ability to understand whale song and can make pearls by eating blackboard chalk, but must keep these talents secret to lead a normal life.

Disney picked up the toon for its channels around the world earlier this year, having premiered it on Disney XD in the US last summer.

“Not only are we extremely happy to expand the international exposure of such an extraordinary programme, but we are proud as this is the very first acquisition of a European animated series for Animax Korea,” said Morgann Favennec, deputy MD at Paris-based distributor Superights.
