ITV orders one-off Zandland documentary Inside Iran: War & Revolution

Inside Iran: War & Revolution is directed by Ben Zand

UK broadcaster ITV is gearing up to air a one-off documentary from factual prodco Zandland that takes viewers inside the war in Iran.

Inside Iran: War & Revolution provides access to local people living under Iran’s authoritarian regime and examines the human and geopolitical dimensions of the recent Iranian uprising and conflict that followed.

It seeks to answer the question of why many Iranians welcomed the military attack launched on their country by the US and Israel in February.

The film is directed by Zandland CEO and founder Ben Zand, who is British-Iranian, and told from the perspective of an anonymous Iranian journalist.

The doc features exclusive interviews with grieving families, ordinary citizens and journalists, who mostly speak under strict anonymity to protect themselves from state reprisals.

Zand said: “What this film captures is an impossible situation and the full range of what it does to the people living through it. Our contributors describe grief, fury, hope and heartbreak, often side by side, and rarely in the ways outside observers might expect. As a British-Iranian, this is deeply personal to me, but the film belongs to the people inside Iran who risked everything to share their reality.”

Inside Iran: War & Revolution airs on ITV1 on August 9 and will also stream on ITVX. Zand exec produces with Josh Reynolds, while Maya Rostowska is the producer.

The film follows Zandland’s previous doc with ITV, Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel’s War, which aired last year.
