Disney+ orders new Polish dramedy, thriller as Jain talks up country’s output

Disney+ has commissioned a comedy-drama and a thriller out of Poland as Angela Jain, head of original productions for the streamer in EMEA, eyes more Polish originals.

Wszystko pod kontrolą, produced by Opus TV, follows a young woman striving to become a better version of herself following an unexpected event.

Gra (working title), produced by Aurum Film sees an exciting adventure turn into a fight for survival when a group of strangers faces an unforeseen threat deep in the forest.

Disney+ has also commissioned a second season of crime drama Breslau, its first original production in Central and Eastern Europe.

Produced by Polish indie ATM Grupa (Wataha), the eight-part series focuses on police commissioner Franz Podolsky, who investigates a brutal murder in the run-up to the 1936 Olympics.

Jain was in Warsaw last week to discuss the importance of local productions in Poland and across the region.

“We strongly believe in the potential of the Polish market and the vital role local productions play within it. The titles announced today perfectly complement our global slate while meeting audience expectations. Collaborating with a group of outstanding Polish creators – respected in the industry for their creativity and exceptional artistic standards – is incredibly inspiring,” said Jain.

Other Disney+ EMEA originals include French comedy bref.2, Spanish fantasy-drama The Invisible, UK period drama Rivals and Italian drama This Is Not Hollywood.

Upcoming EMEA originals include French mockumentary Minimum Security, German thriller City of Blood and UK reality show The Rooneys (working title).
