Awesomeness, Verizon invest in MiTu

US Hispanic-focused media agency operator MiTu has secured US$27m in funding from investors including DreamWorks Animation-owned AwesomenessTV and Verizon Ventures.

MiTu, founded by VH1 veteran Doug Greiff, his producer wife Beatriz Acevedo and Roy Burstin in 2011, has now secured more than US$40m in funding from partners including The Chernin Group, Upfront Ventures and AMC Networks.

The firm plans to “significantly ramp up” investment in products and technology and expand its range of apps.

US Hispanic network NBC Universo linked up with the company last year to develop cross-platform content for Latino millennials using stars from MiTu’s shows and offering advice on must-have summer apps, cookery ideas and outdoor entertainment tips.
