Angus Ross exits as Seven West Media, Southern Cross merger reshuffle goes on

The changing of the guard at Australia’s Seven West Media following its merger with Southern Cross Media earlier this year is continuing, with seasoned executive Angus Ross leaving the company today.

Staff were informed that Ross, a 27-year veteran at the network, most recently holding the title of group MD of Seven Television, would be leaving immediately, while a series of leadership changes were announced by newly appointed executive chairman Heith Mackay-Cruise.

In an internal email, Mackay-Cruise also announced that chief operating officer Dr Trent Dickeson would exit after 13 years, to be replaced by Stephen Haddad, who will report to John Kelly, interim CEO of TV and audio.

In addition, Seb Rennie has been named chief commercial officer for the group, also reporting to Kelly. Both Rennie and Haddad are from the Southern Cross side of the business.

Mackay-Cruise noted Ross’s “outstanding contribution to the Seven Network,” adding: “Angus and his team have led the Seven Network to a number one position in 17 of the last 19 years. He leaves the business and the broader network content team in incredibly solid shape.”

Explaining the sudden executive changes, he said: “These appointments are designed to establish stability, clarity and maximise earnings growth through our integration, and I am confident that we are now supported by a highly capable and committed leadership group to navigate this next chapter for our organisation.”

The departure of the experienced Seven West Media execs follows the abrupt exit of former CEO and MD Jeff Howard last month, who was let go the night before the delivery of the newly merged group’s first set of financial results.
