AMC becomes latest TV company to drop ‘networks’ from its title in company rebrand

US network and studio group AMC Networks has rebranded as AMC Global Media, as it looks to reposition itself in the market as a streaming-first business.

The company announced the name change yesterday in an SEC filing, with CEO Kristin Dolan saying it reflects the “ongoing transformation” of AMC.

The rebrand could also be seen as a way of AMC dropping ‘Networks’ from its name, as more entertainment companies shift from linear and cable business models to digital-first strategies.

Examples include A+E Networks being renamed A+E Global Media in 2025 and Crown Family Networks becoming Hallmark Media three years prior to that.

Although AMC has no current plans to spin off its own cablenets including AMC, BBC America and We TV, the company’s revenue is now primarily driven by streaming offerings such as AMC+, Shudder, Sundance Now and Acorn TV.

Dolan said: “Our new name reflects the ongoing transformation of our business into a global media and studio-driven company, with streaming out front as our leading source of domestic revenue.

“AMC Global Media produces and curates high-quality content and distributes it to viewers around the world through a variety of platforms and partnerships.”
