Machinima cuts another 42 jobs

Struggling YouTube video game network Machinima is to shed around 30% of its remaining staff, in the latest round of lay-offs at the US firm.

The online producer, which counts Google among its investors, announced 42 employees would be made redundant in a restructure of its sales workforce.

The cuts are the biggest for the multichannel network after it axed 22 members of staff last November and made a similar reduction in workforce in December 2012.

Last fall, Machinima cofounder Allen DeBevoise also announced he was stepping down as CEO of the troubled network.

The latest round of job cuts are part of “an effort to create greater focus internally on selling creative ad solutions and branded entertainment, while better leveraging its longstanding partnership with YouTube to drive media sales,” Machinima said in a statement.

In May 2012, the company raised around US$35m in funding in a round led by Google.
