Canada’s Duo Productions names Émilie Fanning as director of scripted development

Montreal-based prodco Duo Productions has appointed producer and screenwriter Émilie Fanning as director of scripted development and content producer.

Émilie Fanning

Fanning will lead the Canadian company’s relationships with writers and broadcasters while overseeing the development of scripted projects for French-language, English-language and international markets.

Her remit also includes identifying new creative opportunities and supporting projects through every stage of development.

Fanning trained in screenwriting in New York before establishing herself as a creator with her first series, Mon ex à moi. She has since contributed to the development and production of scripted projects including Indomptables, Passez au salon and Belle-mère.

Duo Productions said the appointment reflects the outfit’s creator-driven DNA and reinforces its commitment to building strong creative partnerships in Québec and across international markets.

Launched in 2002 by screenwriters Anne Boyer and Michel d’Astous, Duo Productions has made French-language series such as drama Après (After), for CBC/Radio-Canada, and spy thriller Classified, for TVA Group-owned AddikTV.

D’Astous said: “Émilie is a talented creative and one of the industry’s most respected professionals. Her creative vision, editorial instincts and disciplined approach to project development make her an outstanding addition to our leadership team. We are thrilled to welcome her to Duo as we continue to expand our scripted business.”

Fanning added: “Our industry is at a pivotal moment – technology continues to evolve, audience behaviours are changing, yet the demand for compelling storytelling has never been greater. I look forward to working closely with writers to develop original series that will help shape the next generation of scripted television.”
