CONTENT LONDON: HBO dramas The Last of Us and Succession won major prizes at tonight’s International Drama Awards presentation here at Kings Place.
The Last of Us, produced by Sony Pictures Television Studios and based on the Naughty Dog video game originally for PlayStation, was named best English Language Drama Series.
The fourth season of Succession, produced by Project Zeus, Hyberobject Industries, Gary Sanchez Productions and Hot Seat Productions, picked up the Best Returning Drama Series prize.
Both shows aired on HBO in the US and pay TV network Sky Atlantic in Europe following a long-running partnership between the US cablenet and Comcast’s pay TV operator. Sky has exclusive access to HBO content in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Italy.
Sky also scooped a prize for one of its original commissions. Brassic, from Calamity Films and ITV Studios, was named Best Returning Comedy Drama Series.
Elsewhere at tonight’s awards, presented by Steve Bugeja, the other major prizes were, once more, dominated by the streaming services.
The Best Non-English Language Drama Series was The Good Mothers, produced by House Productions and Wildside for Disney+; Best Individual Performance in a Drama Series went to Gary Oldman in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses; while Best Mini-Series was taken by Dark Hearts, for Amazon Prime Video (France) and France Télévisions.
Another French project, TF1’s The Fragile Colossus, was named Best TV Movie, while Australia’s Colin From Accounts, for Foxtel and Binge, took the Best Comedy Drama prize.
There was also a first ever award in this ceremony for social media platform TikTok, with Krystal Klairvoyant named Best Newform Drama Series.
This year’s C21 Drama Pitch winner was Song of the Sun God, with honourable mentions given to Gnomes and Rivals. The C21 Drama Series Script Competition was won by Rupture from Sally Jane Pitts.
