Yvon of the Yukon embarks on pan-Asian tour

Canadian toon house Studio B’s befuddled Frenchman, Yvon of the Yukon, will debut to another 180 million households following a recent deal with a major pan-Asian kids net.

Beginning in August 2005, the third season of Yvon (episodes 27-52) will air on Nickelodeon Asia’s 24-hour channels and programming blocks in India, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Korea, Hong Kong and China.

“We’re all looking forward to launching this series in Japan,” said Syahrizan Mansor, director of programming and acquisition at Nickelodeon Asia. “It’s already a big hit in Canada, and we’re very hopeful that kids in Japan will enjoy it just as much,” he added.

In addition to Yvon of the Yukon’s continued long run on Canada’s YTV, the double Gemini-nominated, triple Leo Award-winning series also airs on CBBC, Nick Latin America, and Nickelodeon Australia.

Co-produced by Top Draw Animations, the series stars dim-witted Yvon Ducharme, a 17th Century French explorer who finds himself in the ‘modern’ world after thawing from a centuries-long stay frozen inside a block of ice.

In other Studio B news, the Vancouver-based toon house is currently in production on two tween-skewed animated show: 26 half-hours for the second season of Being Ian for YTV and another 26 for the first season of Class of the Titans on Teletoon.
