YouTube preps global human rights doc

YouTube has partnered with the Global Fund for Women to develop a five-part docuseries titled Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions., exploring human rights issues around the world.

The series follows activists from five countries who are disrupting the status quo and attempting to change the course of history for the better. It profiles leaders working on issues ranging from ending child marriage in Pakistan to LGBTQ+ liberation in Georgia and racial justice in the US.

The series is directed by two-time Oscar-winning documentarian Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and is produced by SOC Films and Global Fund for Women in association with Fork Films and Secret Sauce Media. Executive producers include Julie Parker Benello, Catherine King, Abigail E Disney, Maria Nunez, Susan Sherrerd, Patty Quillin and Lynda Weinman.

The docuseries will premiere on March 4 on Refinery29’s official YouTube channel as a YouTube original and has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts and Levi Strauss Foundation.

The docuseries joins a growing slate of YouTube Originals focused on learning, which includes Could You Survive the Movies?, Mind Field: What is the Scariest Thing?, Glad You Asked, Retro Tech and The Age of AI with Robert Downey Jr.
