Worldwide distribution for children’s cookery show

MIPCOM NEWS: A brand new Australian children’s cookery series, Cooking for Kids with Luis, has been picked up by Southern Star International for global distribution.

The 20×5′ series, billed as the world’s first cookery show for kids hosted by a six-year-old, is co-produced by production outfit Total Perception and Nickelodeon Australia.

In each episode, Luis prepares, cooks and shares his favourite dishes, from scrambled eggs to tortillas to Chinese dumplings to pikelets to Guatemalan cheesecake. Through Luis kids also learn about where food comes as the six year-old host explores supermarkets, gardens, cane fields and oceans for ingredients.

The show is due to premiere on pre-school service Nick Jr Australia later in October, as well as on the Nick Jr programming block on sibling kids’ service, Nickeolodeon.

Said Catherine Payne, chief executive of Southern Star International: “There’s nothing more universal among kids than their love of food and trying to help out in the kitchen.” Nickelodeon’s Programming and Research director, Jane Gould added: “Luis will inspire kids all over the world to get into the kitchen and start cooking.”

Cooking for Kids with Luis joins Southern Star International’s 14,000 hour library of television programming, including 3000 hours of children and family programming.
