Walter Presents adds new Nordic noir

Stockholm Requiem is based on books by Kristina Ohlsson

Walter Presents, the non-English-language VoD service backed by the UK’s Channel 4, has agreed a multi-territory deal with ZDF Enterprises for a new Swedish crime series.

Ten-part psychological thriller Stockholm Requiem has been acquired by the streaming service in the UK and Australia. Based on Kristina Ohlsson’s trilogy of novels, the series is co-written by Jörgen Hjerdt (Blue Eyes) and Pauline Wolff.

It is produced by Black Spark Film & TV/Kärnfilm in coproduction with C More/TV4, ZDF, ZDF Enterprises, Nice Drama, Chimney Pot, Film Capital Stockholm and Benelux’s Lunanime, in collaboration with Co Made.

Oscar-nominated producer Piodor Gustafsson (Border, The Wife) is one of the producers behind the show, which follows an unconventional criminologist and a new civilian recruit to the police force’s less than welcoming special investigations unit.

Walter Iuzzolino, co-founder and curator of Walter Presents, said: “Just when you think there can’t be any more missing girls in forests worth watching, along comes a thriller that blows your socks off.

“Everything you want in a Scandi noir and more, Stockholm Requiem may just be one of my favourite acquisitions of the year – quintessential viewing for anyone who likes beautifully shot drama and a plot line that will keep you guessing.”

ZDF Enterprises has previously sold dramas such as Blue Eyes, Thicker Than Water and Before We Die to Walter Presents.
