Vicky The Viking sets sail for Oz

ABC TV and Network Ten in Australia have commissioned a local version of Studio 100’s classic kids’ cartoon Vicky The Viking.

Known locally as Vic The Viking, the 78×11’ series was revived several years ago by Belgium-based Studio 100. Now ASE Studios and Flying Bark Productions are onboard an Australian version.

Both ABC TV and Network Ten commissioned the series, with Network Ten premiering it this year and a follow-up broadcast scheduled for ABC TV.

Aimed at 5-11 year olds, the action comedy is currently in production and follows the adventures of the young Viking character created by Swedish author Runer Jonsson 50 years ago.

The original TV series version debuted in 1974 and Studio 100 came up with a revival in 2010.

“The books are extremely popular with the demographic and I am sure children will love our interpretation of Vic The Viking as much as they enjoy Runer Jonsson’s tales,” said Flying Bark MD Jim Ballantine.
