USA Network greenlights medical drama Diplomatic Immunity

Versant Media-owned US cable channel USA Network has given a straight-to-series order to Diplomatic Immunity, an hour-long medical drama from Fox Entertainment Studios.

The show is written by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, who will also executive produce and be showrunners. Fox Entertainment Studios produces, with Fox Entertainment Global handling international distribution.

The series follows a young American doctor suddenly assigned to the medical office at the US embassy in Rome, who must navigate diplomacy, government personalities and geopolitical situations through the medical cases he encounters, alongside his romantic life in a new country.

The order follows the premiere of freshman drama Anna Pigeon on USA Network.

“USA Network has always been a home for compelling, character-driven storytelling, and Diplomatic Immunity delivers that with a fresh, global point of view,” said Val Boreland, president of entertainment at Versant. “We’re thrilled to reunite with Matt and Chris on this smart drama that blends high-stakes medical cases, international intrigue and romance in a way that feels perfectly at home on the network.”

Corman and Ord, who both previously led USA Network series Covert Affairs, said in a joint statement: “This is an amazing full-circle moment for us. To be reunited with all the talented folks at USA is an absolute dream, and the brilliant team at Fox are the perfect studio partners for this Roman adventure.”

USA Network is part of Versant, the media group spun out of Comcast earlier this year that also owns a portfolio of sports and entertainment properties. Fox Entertainment Studios’ scripted slate includes Animal Control, Going Dutch, Best Medicine and The Faithful: Women of the Bible, alongside its unscripted, animation and lifestyle content divisions.
