LA-based talent agency Gersh has acquired the digital and alternative departments of rival A3 Artists Agency.

The deal, which comes seven months after Gersh received a cash injection when it sold a 45% stake to New York-based private equity firm Crestview Partners, will see 25 agents and 45 additional staffers move across to join Gersh.

The acquisition expands Gersh’s alternative department, which will now be led by Alec Shankman, who joins Gersh as a senior partner and head of alternative. He will work alongside senior agent and partner Debra Goldfarb.

In addition, Gersh will establish a standalone digital business led by Jade Sherman, who joins as a senior partner and head of digital.

Gersh said the addition of A3’s digital and alternative departments will accelerate its growth in the domestic and international market.

As well as Shankman and Sherman, other senior agents joining Gersh as part of the deal include Keith Bielory, Mark Turner, Melissa DeMarco, Sam Schmidt, Marienor Madrilejo, Jared Thompson and Matt Sorger.

US talent agencies have endured a torrid 12 months as the writers and actors’ strikes shuttered production, resulting in lost work for their clients. However, Gersh said it has come out the other side in a strong position.

“While many agencies are suffering from uncertainty in the wake of last year’s industry strikes, Gersh’s stability continues to foster an environment of expansion for the agency,” it said, adding that the A3 deal is the first of “multiple planned strategic initiatives.”

Gersh co-presidents Bob Gersh, David Gersh and Leslie Siebert said the “combined resources and expertise within the agency will unlock unparalleled opportunities for our clients.”

A3 Artists Agency chairman Adam Bold added: “We built remarkable digital and unscripted departments and I can’t wait to see what my team does in combination with Gersh.”
