ETVF: Online giants Twitter and Buzzfeed are joining forces in the UK for a weekly programme that will review and recommend TV shows.

#what2watch will stream on Tuesdays on Twitter and will be hosted by Buzzfeed UK editor Scott Bryan and social media editor Dionne Grant.

The two companies announced the 40-minute show at the Edinburgh Television Festival today, where Janine Gibson, editor-in-chief at Buzzfeed UK, said her firm was looking to partner with the TV industry on the ad-funded show.

Bryan said the explosion in the number of new series available to consumers thanks to streaming platforms meant there was a need for a programme that debates television in the same way that existing shows already cover film on TV and radio.

Dara Nasr, MD of Twitter UK, added that people were already finding out about and picking up recommendations for TV shows to watch via the social media platform.

Gibson said that while #what2watch will cover new shows launched by Netflix and Amazon, it will also feature long-running series such as BBC soap EastEnders.
