Sky Kids to introduce My Friend Maisy with BBC Studios, Trustbridge adaptation

The My Friend Maisy series will debut on Sky Kids in 2026

Sky Kids has commissioned My Friend Maisy, a 2D animated preschool series from BBC Studios and Trustbridge Entertainment based on the bestselling Maisy books by Lucy Cousins.

Set to premiere on Sky Kids in 2026, My Friend Maisy is a coproduction between BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions and Trustbridge Entertainment, with animation created by A Productions and Karrot.

The 52×5′ series follows the adventures of a mouse who can go anywhere and do anything, whether it’s fixing a car in her garage, flying a rocket to the moon or slipping into a dreamscape of squiggles when she’s eating spaghetti for dinner.

It was commissioned by Lucy Murphy, director of kids’ content at Sky, for Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios and chief content officer at Sky. The commissioning editor for Sky is Ian France and Matilda Tristram (Peppa Pig) is the lead writer.

Cousins’ books have sold over 46 million copies worldwide and were previously the basis of a self-titled animated series that aired on CiTV in the UK between 1999 and 2000.

The new series was announced last year by BBC Studios and Trustbridge Entertainment, the entertainment arm of publishing company Trustbridge Global Media (TGM) led by former Boat Rocker Media exec Bob Higgins.

TGM owns a portfolio of children’s publishing houses, including Candlewick, Holiday House, Peachtree, Pixel+Ink and Walker Books. TGM companies have published brands such as Guess How Much I Love You, Judy Moody, Where’s Waldo? and Mercy Watson.

The portfolio of BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions, meanwhile, includes hit series such as Bluey and Hey Duggee.

“With a real sense of joy in every episode, My Friend Maisy is the perfect blend of fun and adventure for young viewers,” said Murphy.

Cecilia Persson, MD of BBC Studios Kids & Family, said: “This vibrant new series embraces the legacy of Lucy Cousins’ books with their bold illustrations, quirky humour and charm while pushing the boundaries of classic preschool storytelling, inviting children to enjoy Maisy like never before.”
