Prime Video stays faithful to Indian version of The Traitors with S2 order

The Traitors India is hosted by Karan Johar

Amazon’s Prime Video in India has renewed its local version of All3Media International’s hit unscripted format The Traitors for a second season.

It comes after the Hindi-language adaptation of the globetrotting format, made by BBC Studios India Productions, launched on June 12, with new episodes dropping on Prime Video in India every week.

Originally launched on RTL 4 in the Netherlands in 2021, the format was created by IDTV and has been sold into over 30 territories following recently announced deals in Latin America.

In the format, 20 contestants compete in a game of truth and deception with a group of ‘faithfuls’ tasked with uncovering the ‘traitors’ within the group.

While some versions feature members of the public, the Indian version, set in a palace in Rajasthan and hosted by Karan Johar, features a line-up of well-known personalities from India’s entertainment industry. These include Anshula Kapoor, Apoorva, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi, Harsh Gujral and Jannat Zubair.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see The Traitors strike such a powerful chord with audiences across India,” said Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals, Prime Video, India. “With its distinctive mix of tension, strategy and emotional honesty, brought to life by our versatile host, Karan Johar, and a stellar line-up of players who have brought their A-game to the show, the series has emerged as a true breakout.

“As we continue to shape a bold and diverse unscripted slate at Prime Video, The Traitors stands out as a marquee title that pushes the boundaries of the reality genre. Buoyed by the overwhelming response, we’re thrilled to begin work on season two and take the experience to the next level.”
