Pluto TV builds expansive FAST strategy around ‘key driver’ South Park

South Park has run for 26 seasons since it premiered in 1997
Pluto TV is building out a more extensive FAST strategy around South Park, with the Paramount Global-owned AVoD platform set to launch multiple new channels dedicated to the long-running animated series.
The streamer is set to launch individual FAST channels dedicated to the show’s primary characters, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny, that will sit alongside the main South Park channel.
In addition, Pluto TV will launch a new South Park “themed” channel each month across Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Canada, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Latin America and Australia. The first themed channel, titled South Park Armageddon!, launches this month.
Co-created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, South Park has run for 26 seasons (and numerous specials and movies) since it premiered in 1997. It has been renewed by Paramount-owned cable network Comedy Central until 2027, taking it through until its 30th season.
Paramount Global said the show had “proven to be a key driver” for Pluto TV in international markets and consistently ranked as a top 10 series in each market where the AVoD service is available.
According to Paramount, South Park is the number one Pluto TV series in Canada, Germany and Italy. It added that the franchise “experienced massive growth” in terms of total viewing hours in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Spain in the second half of 2023. In the UK, where it launched on Pluto TV at the end of 2023, it is in the top five most-watched series.
“We know that this is one of Paramount’s fan-favourite franchises, and we are excited to offer viewers a new way to enjoy a series that, for the last 26 years, has entertained multiple generations with its funny and subversive world across the whole Paramount ecosystem,” said Pluto TV’s senior VP of international content strategy and acquisitions Katrina Kowalski.
