Pinky & Perky transformed into adult comedy

UK children's TV company Just Group is planning to bring back 50s children's puppets Pinky & Perky – as hosts of a late-night adult-oriented comedy show.

The company, which is behind Butt Ugly Martians, is in final discussions with a UK independent production outfit to produce a half-hour comedy series, with the kids' characters now transformed into a streetwise comedy duo. Just anticipates a late-night slot on UK terrestrial TV.

The TV industry will catch its first glimpse of the new Pinky & Perky in Sex 'n' Drugs 'n' Bacon Roll, a live stage show at the upcoming Edinburgh TV Festival on August 25. {It'll be a swift departure from their childlike image,{ said a Just spokeswoman.

Created by immigrant Czech puppeteers Jan and Vlasta Dalibor, the original 220×30' Pinky & Perky show hit BBC screens in 1957, singing speeded up cover versions of the hits of the day, on their fictitious TV station PPC TV.

After being shelved by the BBC in 1966 for singing a {controversial{ song about the General Election, the porcine duo trotted over to ITV, where they continued their unique artform until 1972. Just Group picked the rights to the characters in 1999.
