Steven Knight is among the busiest screenwriters in the business right now. With six seasons of Peaky Blinders behind him and a feature-length final instalment in the works, the scribe is also lining up a second seasons of BBC drama SAS: Rogue Heroes and Tom Hardy collaboration Taboo, plus an Enzo Ferrari drama for Apple TV+ and a period boxing project called A Thousand Blows for Disney+.

Great Expectations, his second take on Charles Dickens for the BBC and FX following 2019’s A Christmas Carol, is due to air in the coming weeks and, after Peaky, shooting is also underway on Knight’s next great homage to the West Midlands in the shape of 1980s-set ska music drama This Town, from Kudos and Mercury Studios for the BBC, with Banijay Rights distributing.

He spoke to Michael Pickard about these shows and the development of his Digbeth Loc Studios in his hometown of Birmingham.
