MultiChoice’s Africa Magic preps first entry in planned trilogy of Nollywood films

Nigerian romantic comedy My Fairytale Wedding

MIP AFRICA: MultiChoice pay TV channel Africa Magic has unveiled the first instalment of a planned trilogy of Nollywood films that aim to reflect the diverse experiences of modern-day African women.

Nigerian romcom My Fairytale Wedding is produced by Chinenye Chichi Nworah and directed by Dimeji Ajibola. It is executive produced by Chinenye Chichi Nworah, Ini Edo, Carolyna Hutchings, Abiye Alamina and Waka Credit.

Putting an African twist on a classic romance story, it stars Ramsey Nouah, Carolyna Hutchings, Ini Edo, Kanayo O Kanayo, Daniel Etim, Uzor Arukwe, Lilian Esoro, Mercy Eke, Tina Mba and Ayo Mogaji.

According to the official logline, My Fairytale Wedding “delivers love, laughter and a sprinkle of magic” and offers “a refreshing reimagining of classic fairy tales, infused with African heart and soul and set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, Nigeria.”

The show follows a 29-year-old woman who, in a desperate bid to find love, turns to the mystical power of ‘kayanmata’ – a love potion – from a flamboyant seller.

According to MultiChoice, which announced the news during Mip Africa this week, My Fairytale Wedding is the first film in a planned trilogy, with each instalment focusing on the lives of three women, each navigating unique challenges in their personal quest for happiness.

“In conceptualising and producing My Fairytale Wedding, we wanted to bring something fresh and authentic to the screen – something that resonates deeply with our audience while offering a fun and light-hearted take on the challenges of love in the 21st century,” said Busloa Tejumloa, MultiChoice West Africa’s head of content and channels.

“By blending modern realities with a touch of magical realism, we’ve created a story that’s both relatable and enchanting – all while staying true to our African roots.”

My Fairytale Wedding is predominantly in English but mixes in indigenous Nigerian languages and pidgin English.
