Netflix rolls dice on Vegas drama from Billions creators, Martin Scorsese on board

Oscar Isaac in Netflix’s Beef S2

Netflix has given an eight-episode order to an as-yet-untitled drama set in the world of Las Vegas casinos.

The hour-long series is created by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, creators of Showtime financial drama Billions, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Oscar Isaac, who starred in the second season of Netflix drama Beef as well as Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, will play the lead role under a new first-look creative partnership. Through the deal, the streaming giant will get a first look at series and films from Isaac, Elvira Lind and Gena Konstantinakos’ production outfit, Mad Gene.

The series will see Isaac playing Robert ‘Bobby Red’ Redman, president of Vegas’s hottest hotel casino, who has to make some risky moves to try to secure his position and take more ground.

In addition to Koppelman and Levien, who also wrote the poker thriller Rounders as well as heist blockbuster Ocean’s Thirteen, the project will also be executive produced by Martin Scorsese.

The legendary filmmaker has previously helmed Vegas-set projects including 1995 feature Casino, as well as the HBO gambling drama Boardwalk Empire.
