Based on an original series from Israel’s Keshet 12, the US adaptation follows a renowned breast cancer surgeon, played by Danes (Homeland), whose world changes after receiving her own cancer diagnosis, and becoming intertwined with her new patient.

The original was created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit and Sharon Maymon for Keshet 12. The adaptation is created, written and executive produced by Treem, who co-created and served as showrunner on the showtime drama The Affair.

Other exec producers on the series include Danes, Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir (Homeland, Our Boys) and Keren Shahar (Unconditional, Total Control) and Peter Traugott (Echo 3, La Brea), who recently left Keshet Studios to become president at Fifth Season.

Danes previously starred in the Netflix psychological thriller The Beast in Me, which premiered in November. Her other major TV credits include Showtime espionage thriller Homeland and FX’s Fleishman Is in Trouble.

“I’m thrilled to get to tell this story with the genius, Claire Danes,” Treem says. “We’ve been looking for something to do together for a very long time and this character, Annika, is perhaps a mix of both of our wildest dreams.”
