LA SCREENINGS: US broadcast network NBC has acquired the US rights to primetime gameshow Win Win, marking the first international expansion of the format.

Currently in development, the show will be produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television Alternative Studio and UK prodco Hello Dolly.

Created by Hello Dolly and recently commissioned by ITV in the UK, Win Win sees contestants battle it out by answering questions based on a unique nationwide survey. Every prize won in the studio is also won by someone playing at home via an app. In the final episode, one contestant is guaranteed to win a jackpot.

Hello Dolly is co-founded by Victoria Ashbourne and Stuart Shawcross. NBCUniversal Formats licenses the format internationally.

“Win Win is a fresh, high-stakes format that delivers on its name by giving viewers and contestants alike the chance to walk away winners,” said Sharon Vuong, exec VP of unscripted programming at NBC. “We look forward to partnering with Universal Television Alternative Studio and Hello Dolly to further develop this uniquely rewarding game show for our American audience.”

ITV revealed the original commission in March and will air the show on Saturday nights for six weeks with comedy duo Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins presenting.

Playing survey questions based on the views of the British public, a 40-strong group of studio contestants and viewers play to win prizes including holidays, cars and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

The show, ITV’s biggest ever ad-funded series, comes from BE Studio, a full-service creative outfit producing ad-funded entertainment, which has brought People’s Postcode Lottery and ITV together to co-fund the format.
