Microdrama platform Shortical secures $100m financing from PvX Partners

Bound by Fire was Shortical’s first fully AI-generated original microdrama

Israeli microdrama platform Shortical has secured US$100m in financing from Singapore’s PvX Partners in one of the largest such deals announced this year, as the fast-growing app looks to scale its content library and expand its global reach.

Shortical, which produces shortform scripted series for mobile audiences, said the funding would accelerate its growth as the wider microdrama category continues to expand.

The burgeoning sector has already surpassed 2.3 billion global downloads, with Shortical’s data-driven, AI-first approach helping propel it into the top 10 highest-grossing apps in its category in the US within less than a year of launch, according to the company.

The platform described its shortform scripted series as combining “Hollywood-grade” production values with fast-paced, cliffhanger-driven storytelling. All content is produced and owned in-house, which the company says allows it to closely align creative output with real-time audience engagement and performance data.

In May, Shortical launched Bound by Fire, its first fully AI-generated original microdrama series. Created and directed by award-winning creator Ofir Lobel, the epic fantasy series marks a major milestone in the evolution of AI-native entertainment, combining cinematic storytelling with AI-generated characters and worlds.

Guy Shimoni

Guy Shimoni, Shortical’s CEO and co-founder, said: “PvX has a deep understanding of how a unique business like ours scales, and gives us greater confidence in our growth strategy through access to their tools and underwriting analysis. Their diligence reinforces our ability to scale our vision for the future of mobile-first publishing, bringing our radically different approach to entertainment to a growing global audience, while maintaining strong unit economics.”

Shortical’s content engine is built to continuously test and optimise narrative elements by analysing user behaviour and engagement patterns, with the platform refining its storytelling approach in real time. The company said this approach has helped drive higher retention and monetisation across its original series, with more than 20 million episodes viewed each month, amounting to around 250,000 hours of content consumption.

Joe Wadakethalakal, CEO and co-founder of PvX Partners, said of the finance deal: “What stood out to us was the strength of Shortical’s retention metrics and the consistency of its user engagement. When those fundamentals are strong, it creates a clear path to scaling acquisition spend in a way that remains efficient, repeatable, and well beyond current levels.”

Jeff Cohen, head of origination at PvX, added in a social post: “Another microdrama app and our biggest deal yet! PvX Partners is providing US$100m in user acquisition funding for Shortical. I’m very excited to be backing Guy Shimoni, [Shortical investor] Nadav Brandstater and the rest of the team to help them continue to scale.”

PvX Partners is a financial services firm specialising in user-acquisition financing for consumer applications, offering non-dilutive revolving credit facilities as an alternative to traditional venture capital and debt financing.
