Mediawan Productions has optioned the adaptation rights to KOTV’s French-Canadian singing competition format Zenith for all French-speaking European territories.

The series, which is set to premiere on ICI Radio-Canada on January 19, aims to find a professional singer who can captivate an audience made up of 100 VIP voters representing four generations: Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z.

The local Canadian version, produced by Montreal-based producer KOTV, is hosted by TV and radio personality Veronique Cloutier.

KOTV Distribution first began shopping the format at Mipcom in October. The title was part of its recently established formats catalogue, which includes scripted show Pillow Talk and quiz show Judgement Call.

“Audiences are thirsty for a festive music competition with an added touch of great artists with a little nostalgia. Zenith is a series that brings a combination of all of these to viewers, designed to capture all generations, young and old,” said Mia Desroches, VP, global distribution, KO Distribution.

Hugo Jagueneau, global head of formats and market research at Mediawan Productions, added: “We immediately fell in love with the format, as it is a premium entertainment show that appeals to the whole family. A unique, breathtaking and fun format that is already picking up steam in France.”
